PRODUCT CARE

WOOD SURFACE & WOVEN RATTAN

Frequent Waxing is the most essential element in the care of your Box Living Product. Our recommendation for preserving the life of each Wood and Rattan products :

  1. Do not use silicon waxes, lemon oil, or other oily polishes. We recommend a quality carnauba paste or crème wax such as Johnson's Paste Wax.

  2. New Furniture should be waxed within 30 days of first use and as often as needed.

  3. Application Technique Recommended: Apply a thin film of wax to the surface area, gradually working through one area at a time. Consistently rub in the same direction, then buff with a soft dry cloth.

  4. In between waxing, dust with a soft, moist, lint free cloth, drying right after and then again with another soft, dry cloth.

  5. In between waxing, dust with a soft, moist, lint free cloth, drying right after and then again with another soft, dry cloth.

  6. Whenever dusting, never use any product with an oil based polish or polishes that contain silicon as they can damage the top coat / lacquers.

PAINTED SURFACES

As painted surfaces are naturally fragile, painted finishes are only recommended for residential use.

Painted finishes have an eggshell sheen lacquer and should never be waxed or polished. This will result in an undesirable higher gloss/sheen.

When cleaning, use mild soapy water, drying the surface area soon afterward with a clean, soft cloth. A light coat of carnauba wax should be applied.

A pint that this applied to woven peel or bamboo surfaces does not adhere well as it would to rattan or wood. Some chipping may occur and should be expected over time. BOX LIVING does not guarantee the adhesion of painted finishes on peel or bamboo products.

BAMBOO

Bamboo requires little care other than regular dusting with a soft cloth. A light buffing with a soft dry cloth will create a soft sheen.

For cleaning heavy spills and stains, sue a solution of mild soapy warm water. Apply with a damp cloth and then dry immediately with a clean, soft cloth.

Special care should be given to cleaning details such as Rawhide bindings. Do not overuse liquids when doing so.

If a split appears on the surfaces of the bamboo, it will not affect the structures integrity of the Bamboo component / product in any way. This is considered a natural reaction to temperature and humidity changes.

STONE

Marble, Travertine, and Granite are all-porous and will stain if left unprotected.

All organic matters such as food and liquids should not be exposed to these surfaces for periods. Spills should be wiped up immediately to avoid damage.

Clean with PURE (pH neutral) warm water and only mild soap, rinsing thoroughly afterward and wiping dry with a clean, soft cloth. Do not use any abrasive cleaning agents or any acid formula.

If this is not successful a repeat should be done, using vinegar.

For regular care and maintenance, polish with non-yellowing paste wax. A sealer is also recommended to seal surfaces.

LEATHER

Leather is a natural material requiring little or no care during normal use. However, we recommend the following:

  1. For spills or contact with food/liquids, blot excess liquid immediately with a clean absorbent cloth and sponge. If needed, use a mild solution of PURE (pH neutral) warm water with Ivory soap. Dry with a clean and allow it to dry.

  2. For food stains, oils or grease, wipe excess liquids with a clean, dry cloth and leave it alone. The spot should dissolve into the leather quickly. Never apply water to an oil-based stain.

  3. For the above leather, never use saddle soap, abrasive cleaner, regular soap furniture polish oil, varnish, or ammonia water.

  4. For rawhides, clean with saddle soap followed by a leather moisturizer applied with a soft cloth.

Note: The preceding remedies are by normal cleaning – general industry standards. BOX LIVING furniture cannot guarantee the result, and we assume no liability in connection with the above applications. Always try the cleaning method in a hidden area first to be sure it's colorfast.

TEXTILE

BOX LIVING furniture fabrics are 100% solution dyed acrylics with a soil resistant finish.

Always clean with a natural soap in warm water. Sponge and rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove dirt. Allow to air-dry.

Professional cleaning is always recommended for tough stains. Repeated washing may reduce the effectiveness of the soil-resistant finish in the fabric.

To preserve the colors as well as longevity of textiles and cushions store cushions indoors during adverse weather conditions.

BRASS

BOX LIVING brass is finished and sealed with a clear lacquer to delay the patina and oxidation, a natural process. Brass is a natural material that will constantly change due to environmental elements.

Regular care includes dusting with a soft, dry, clean cloth and a light application of non-wax dusting spray, and periodically cleaning with carnauba-based furniture wax. The furniture wax will help protect the longevity of the lacquer seal and maintain its natural beauty.

Any water or other liquid spilled onto brass should be blotted off immediately.

Avoid using cleaning solutions as they will alter the finish/plating.

GENERAL FURNITURE CARE

Spills should never be wiped, but rather bloated immediately.

If perfume or nail polish remover is spilled, do not wipe but blot it off.

The finish should return to normal once the liquid has evaporated. Allow the area to dry, rub with a fine automotive polishing compound and then apply a fresh coat of wax.

If candle wax drops on a finished wood surface, hold an ice cube to the wax to harden it. Remove the wax with a dull plastic tool and then polish with furniture wax.

Please always remember, many of the materials used in making your BOX LIVING product are natural products. Sun bleaching may occur when these materials are exposed to sunlight, incandescent and / or fluorescent lighting. This may cause darker finishes to lighten and lighter finishes to darken. Arrange your furniture so that it does not sit heating registers, air conditioning units or direct light sources.
